Following the conviction of his son, Hunter, for lying on a gun permit, Joe Biden admitted he was unable to get a cannon permit while he fought during the Civil War in Delaware. It was an attempt to show that anyone could have trouble getting weapons permits in the United States.
“No one and I repeat, no one needs a weapon with all those magazines, “Biden said. “Anyone in America can get a subscription to…to…to Time, Home & Garden, and even Pop…uh…Popular Mechanics without a cannon. The problem is getting a cannon.”
Biden described his days fighting in the Civil War and how he probably could have done better if he had a cannon.
“I remember asking the president, I think it was Warren Harding at the time, if I could have a cannon,” Biden stated. “He asked me if I had ever been arrested and, of course, I never lie. I told him I…I…I was once arrested for marching down in Pensacola, which is in one of those southern states, I believe. Anyway, we were marching for more cannons in age-restricted retirement communities. You think I’m kidding? I was arrested and spent the night in jail with some guy named Abe. Lincoln, I think was his last name. Pretty tall guy, if I recall. Said he never went to college but wanted to be president or something. Not sure what happened to him after that. True story.”
Biden confided that Harding, nor any other president approved his cannon permit.
Biden later described writing All Quiet On the Western Front, a book about his military experience fighting in every war for the last 200 years or so.
Reporters questioned White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on the authenticity of Biden’s claims, particularly since All Quiet On the Western Front was already written by Erich Maria Remarque almost 100 years ago. They wondered if maybe, perhaps, it was just a little bit plagiarized.
“The book is a true account of whatever it is a true account of,” said Jean-Pierre. “The president didn’t plagiarize. Maybe he copied a few bits here and there, or maybe it was the whole thing. But we deny any claims that it is plagiarism.”
Following the President’s comments, cannon sales in the United States jumped by almost 14 percent.
I'm still laughing! Thanks for the humorous start to my day!
